Tuesday August 5, 2014

Tuesday August 5 up bright and early to go to the pub restaurant for a good dose of greasy fried eggs and a large glass of orange juice. We pay our moorage at the office and cast off. Then decide because our fenders are down that we should get fuel. Good thing cause there's a line up for it in Port McNeil.

Goodbye Port Hardy

Calm Trip to Port McNeill
We arrive in Pt McNeill just after lunch and as there used to be a policy of no reservations and no slips assigned until abeam of the breakwater, so we were patient till we arrived. It turns out that they now take reservations and there is NO room at the inn. We wait the rest of the day on the hook listening to channel 66 and Penny is getting antsy as her sister and brother in law are coming from the big city to stay with us. They are trailering with their 24 ft. Trophy and they will be here tomorrow.

One of the best boaters candy stores on the coast and must when visiting is right here in Pt McNeil and we do it. Standing outside we meet old friends Don & Diane MacKenzie (I was a ships carpenter at one stage in my life and worked for Don on a large tug boat refit). He is also one of my brother-in-law’s best life time friends. Both are from tow boat families. They are connected and bonded with love of the history of towing on the coast. Don had planned to leave shortly to go around Caution but they want to See Gary and Wendy, so will hang out till they arrive the next day. We visit and return to OA on the hook anchored out in front of Port McNeil and the wind is picking up but I know it will settle and zzzz ZZZZZZZ.(before the zzzzzzz I set the depth alarm to shallow to deep.
