Calm Johnstone Strait

Thursday August 21 Gail came down at seven thirty in the morning as promised. She did come prepared with a large rifle in hand as there is a young Grizzly being a bother around the property. We ordered some cinnamon buns to travel with and George made them man size before his trip to Kelsey Bay, six in the morning. Paid the bill and under way just after seven thirty anticipating a smooth transit early in the morning of Mr. Johnstone.  He can be nasty as a bear coming out of hibernation, but this morning is more like a kitten curled up in your lap purring and fast asleep. We did see some pacific white side dolphins on the way down.

Freight & Passengers

You can tell the Newbie and immature boaters. A 48 B Liner that just had to show us how big his wash was and after he had completed his lift of his leg to mark his territory, altered course to proceed down Discovery Passage. I guess about two miles out of his way was no inconvenience for him but his wash plagued us for miles in this almost perfect calm water as it coincided with are passage up towards Farewell Harbour.

We transited Whirlpool rapids and the Greenpoints and congratulated ourselves on our good planning of the passage, but It was just good luck. Are destination is in Phillips Arm where can we continue our fall preparation of the old girls’ paint work and varnish. This is a good spot for Chevy to run, play and there is no bear or Wolf scat about as yet. It is perfect weather to paint.  There is no strong breeze to muss up the application of the finish. We have the bay to ourselves so neighbours cannot be bothered by the Buzzz of the Buzz bees and the cure munching of the soft wood gobblers. We say to ourselves that we a getting too old for this but the pride gets in the way. DUMB.

View From Our Workshop

Too tired to sleep but we must. I hear an Owl hooting in the night and the wind high in the trees, just a soft whisper.
