Saturday August 23 the morning is without fog and this means that I can start early.
Pen is still in bed with her book with her best bud curled up next to her (not
ME).There is a very small creek at the head of the bay and all day long you
hear the ker plop of salmon jumping in the bay.
Momma Merganzer & Chicks
They
are waiting for the first real rain to swell the creek to make it possible for
them to complete their life cycle, spawn to ensure their kind will continue to
enrich the planet. It’s been a long and hard day working on OA with no time out
to appreciate the beauty about us. There are old log booms sticks anchored
about the bay and the seals are basking in the sun using them as swim platforms
waiting for their tummies to be empty of the salmon that they snagged
earlier. When the time is right they
speed around the bay just below the surface and their wakes on the surface show
there under water hot pursuit of dinner. The wind is high in the trees again tonight and that means that Mr.
Johnstone Straits is restless and not a good time to be visiting him. IT is
past my time for some shut eye. See you tomorrow.
