Tuesday August 12 up early in anticipation of low water I move the old girl back away
from the beach further out on the dock. It becomes apparent that we will have
to move Gary’s boat off the face where he was in deep water and relocate OA
there. A black bear was busy on the beach rolling rocks looking for small crabs
and probably been by us earlier as Chevy had been murfing and lifting her snout
into the wind to get a whiff. Later the
same couple came to visit and said they saw another black with cubs and a wolf
swimming a deer from the beach.

DeerLeap and Others at Anchor |
The marine cloud has not lifted yet but the sun is
on its way for another glorious Broughton day. Alane and Donna of “Sea Vagabond” who were
here last night have come back to socialize. We nestle on the old timber
logging float with our chairs in a big circle talking tall tales about are
boats, sailing adventures and trading knowledge. This all started about 11.30
in the morning and it’s now almost 2pm. We had planned to go fishing but all
talking up a major storm.
A late lunch is served and nap with the dog followed by a sit in the sun. Dinner on the dock is planned and another rambunctious evening of ever taller stories.
Napier Bay is becoming very busy with yachts on the hook. “Deerleap”
an 80ft gleaming classic yacht moors just out in the bay. “Ambler” (BYC vessel owned
by Don Simpson at 101 years of age and his son) comes in for a tour and leaves
for another bay. We are now preparing ourselves for the trip to Port McNeil and
it has been a grand few days with old friends and relatives.
